How to set or change the location of the converted files?

Please Open SoundTaxi Settings and choose where you want SoundTaxi to save your converted files.

If you select “Output folder”, your converted files will be stored in the output folder set in Output folder field below. Use button “Select” to choose the output folder on your PC or just type full path to this folder in the field.

If you select “Same folder”, the converted files will be saved in the same folder with the original ones.

If you select “Subfolder ‘Converted’ in source folder”, your converted files will be placed to subfolder ‘Converted’, located in the folder with the original files.

How to make SoundTaxi automatically convert files from folder when new content is added?

Please open SoundTaxi Settings, mark “Convert files from this folder automatically” and set the folder location in the field, all files from this folder will be enqueued and converted after program starts. So you can copy all files you need to convert to this folder and SoundTaxi will convert them automatically.

How to replace already converted files?

To replace already converted files, please open SoundTaxi Settings -> “When output file exists” and choose the option “Overwrite existing file” (for example if you want to reduce bitrate of the file).

How to avoid replacing already converted files?

To avoid replacing already converted files, please open SoundTaxi Settings -> “When output file exists” and choose one of the options: “Don’t convert file” or “Create unique name”.

Does SoundTaxi preserve an original folder tree structure for output files?

Yes, if you mark “Preserve subfolders” (in the Soundtaxi Setting), the full path to your original file will be re-created in the folder set in group “Convert to”.

How to select the desired audio output format?

Please open SoundTaxi Settings and find "Encoder for audio files". You can select MP3, M4A (MPEG4 AAC), or WAV output format from the drop-down list.

How to select the desired video output format?

Please open SoundTaxi Settings and find "Encoder for video files". You can select iPod MPEG4 Video (MP4), DivX Player Video (AVI) or WMV from the drop-down list.

How to select the desired audio bitrate?

Please open SoundTaxi Settings and find “Compression Quality”. You can choose a desired bitrate for MP3 and M4A files from the drop-down list. The highest bitrate is 320 kbps. SoundTaxi creates files with variable bitrate. When you choose a certain bitrate, your actual bitrate varies around the set value for optimum quality to file size ratio.

What settings should I use to save the book's metadata?

SoundTaxi is able to extract the metadata from audio book and write them into the resulting output file. Please open SoundTaxi Settings and move the 'Troubleshoot slider' to 'use only trusted players' position. Using this setting SoundTaxi will convert with metadata, but the conversion is slower (one file at a time with 1x speed) and requires itunes.

How to extract audio from movies or video clips?

To extract audio from video files please open SoundTaxi settings, find "Encoder for video files" and select AAC – MPEG4 Audio or MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio as output format. Then please add your video files for conversion.
