Why do I receive "Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license" error?

Please note, SoundTaxi converts media you’ve legally acquired and the files must have valid licenses. SoundTaxi doesn't bypass any copy protection and can't convert files if you don't have rights to play back them on your PC or if the licenses have expired.

How to fix "Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license" error?

  1. First of all, please be sure you have the latest SoundTaxi version installed.
  2. Please check if you can play your original files with Windows Media Player / QuickTime Player / iTunes / Real Player (depending on the file type) on your PC. If you can do this, SoundTaxi should be able to convert them successfully.
  3. Please check your DRM licenses for the files. You need to have sufficient rights to play back the files in order to unprotect them. In case they have expired you need to acquire new ones.
  4. In case the problem persists, please try to move the Troubleshoot slider (in SoundTaxi Settings) to certain position, close the settings by clicking "OK" and run the conversion again. You can try the 4 troubleshooting levels step-by-step to see if any of them fix the problem.
  5. If you have done all the previous steps, but the issue still persists, please wirte our Support team to support@soundtaxi.info and provide with the following information:
  • What kind of files are you converting (format)?
  • What kind of error message do you get (screenshot)?
  • Send us please some of your original files for our examination.
  • Please open SoundTaxi working folder C:\Program Files\SoundTaxi and run SupportWizard.exe

In Support Wizard window please select "Contact SoundTaxi Support" and click "Continue" button. After that in the new window please activate all checkboxes (system information, crash reports, logs), enter your name, e-mail and a quick comment, and click "Send" button. In case you're unable to send System Information file automatically please find it saved on your desktop and attach it to the e-mail.

Variants of error:

  • Code 305: Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license.
  • Code 315: Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license. The conversion failed to start in 60 seconds.
  • Code 316: Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license. <custom_message>
  • Code 317: Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license. <custom_message>
  • Code 318: Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license.
